چکیده

The basic DEA model experiences the weights flexibility problem which is resolved by the method of weight restrictions. The current research incorporating Decision Makers’ (DMs) preferences into weight restrictions is subject to serious limitations such as lacking a framework for dual role factors and not incorporating organizational hierarchy in decision-making. The proposed Genetic Algorithm (GA) based approach for weight restrictions incorporates a dual role factor and organizational hierarchy in decision-making. The approach involves finding a set of weights which are at a minimum distance from all the DMs’ preferences. The approach is flexible and is able to generate a common set of weights and Decision Making Unit (DMU) specific weight restrictions simultaneously. Results from model validation in a well-known automobile spare parts manufacturer in India indicate that the majority of suppliers perceived as highly efficient were actually found to be inefficient in the GA based weight restrictions model. A major contribution of this study is a robust approach to deal with multiple DMs and DEA weights flexibility problem. Another key highlight of the research is translating DMs preferences into a distance function. Using that as a fitness measure within the proposed Evolutionary Algorithms has been done for the first time in the presence of multiple DMs. 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Estimation of Return to Scale under Weight Restrictions in Data Envelopment Analysis

Return-To-Scale (RTS) is a most important topic in DEA. Many methods are not obtained for estimating RTS in DEA, yet. In this paper has developed the Banker-Trall approach to identify situation for RTS for the BCC model "multiplier form" with virtual weight restrictions that are imposed to model by DM judgments. Imposing weight restrictions to DEA models often has created problem of infeasibili...

An improved approach for ranking the candidates in a voting system based on efficiency intervals

This paper proposes improvements and revisions to a recent approach in a voting system, and provides an effective approach with a stronger discriminate power. For this purpose, the advantage of a linear transformation is utilized to redene a previously used concept of virtual worst candidate, by incorporating the existing weight restrictions. Then, the best score of this virtual candidate is us...

Improving envelopment in data envelopment analysis by means of unobserved DMUs: an application of banking industry

In data envelopment analysis, the relative efficiency of a decision making unit (DMU) is defined as the ratio of the sum of its weighted outputs to the sum of its weighted inputs allowing the DMUs to freely allocate weights to their inputs/outputs. However, this measure may not reflect a the true efficiency of a DMU because some of its inputs/outputs may not contribute reasonably in computing t...

A Value Efficiency-Based Target Setting Approach in Data Envelopment Analysis

Basic models of Data Envelopment Analysis are intrinsically preference-free, in the sense that they consider all inputs and outputs and also all decision making units of the same importance. Although this property is beneficial in many ways, it has some drawbacks simultaneously, as the decision makers’ preferences are not taken into account in the process of evaluating units.  To overcome this ...

Differential Characteristics of Efficient Frontiers in DEA with Weight Restrictions

The non-differentiability and implicit definition of boundary of production possibility set (PPS) in data envelopment analysis (DEA) are two important difficulties for obtaining directional characteristics, including different elasticity measures and marginal rates of substitution. Also, imposing weight restrictions in DEA models have some shortcomings and misunderstandings. In this paper we ut...
